Question: Is it possible to measure the take-off distance of a RC plane without using an electric sensor?

This is a crucial part in our ME design project. Anyone can help?

I applied for a UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) project by contacting Prof Gerard Leng. We met yesterday and settled the topic. I chose to do a quite theoretical one: Distributed Simulation System. I would say this is a very nice topic, but the beginning part will be a bit far from my major. What I'm supposed to do is to connect 32 computers and build a parallel computing platform based on Linux system. After that, the mechanical engineering part comes in and several algorithms and CFD programs will be tested on this platform.

The end seems a million miles away now. It is a big challenge and I need to read a lot of materials. The first task will be figuring out what is MPI and how to use it, which is totally new to me. My short-term goal is to set up such a platform using 4 Windows PCs and test some simple programs. It will take a week, or a month.

我高中时思考过一些关于“存在”的问题。按照现在的理论，我们生活在一个四维的宇宙。时间与空间交织成网，而我们全都被粘在这个网上面。当然还有一个十一维宇宙的理论，不过那个我还不大懂，但总之都是考虑限定宇宙的维度。

那么，我们因何而存在于时空之网中呢？时空的全貌如何？撕开这张网会如何？网外又是如何？是否“存在”时空之外的“存在”？或者说，或许我们尚未察觉某些隐藏的因素？

那时我一直相信“不识庐山真面目，只缘身在此山中”的道理，觉得想要了解时空的本质，必须来到时空之外；想要感知“存在”的本质，必须来到“存在”之外去观察。我想可能人类永远也做不到这样的事情，也就是说，我们永远也无法知道我们因何而“存在”。

就这样迷迷糊糊的进化着，却搞不清哪个最本质的“从何而来”。日月星辰，生生灭灭，这样下去，人类作为整体，也难逃一个终极的点。

最近看到一篇关于质量起源的报道，又捡起了这份思绪。

风吹草动，实则暗藏多少玄妙。还是那句话：宇宙太大，人类太小；时间太长，生命太短。

考试期间，还是不胡思乱想为好。
